Nejib Zaafrani served as the first Secretary General and CEO of the Dubai Supreme Energy Council (DSCE) from 2010 to 2012, where his chief objective was to secure energy sustainability for the Emirate of Dubai. He played a pivotal role in the development of DSCE Governance structure and Dubai Integrated Energy Strategy (DIES) 2030.
Prior to his position at the DSCE, he worked for Royal Dutch Shell Group for 30 years in Asia, Europe and Middle East. As Chairman and Managing Director of Shell Abu Dhabi from 2007 to 2010, he was in charge of overseeing all Shell’s business interests in Abu Dhabi. He was a Board Director of major Joint Ventures – such as ADCO and GASCO – and an active member of the Petroleum Institute’s Governing Board and the Emirates Foundation Science and Technology Advisory Council.
Prior to that, Nejib Zaafrani was Regional Vice President of New Business Development and Strategic Alliances across the Middle East, Caspian and South Asia for Shell E&P International Ltd.
Nejib Zaafrani is a member of several professional associations and business groups and is active with academic institutions. He regularly speaks on various issues related to energy and transnational infrastructure, including human capacity development, and participates in several panel discussions of prominent international conferences and forums like the World Economic Forum (WEF).
He is a cofounder, President and Governing Board Member of Tunisian Talents United (TTU) Association since 2016. In December 2017, Mr Zaafrani received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Tunisian Business Council (TBC) Dubai & Northern Emirates, United Arab Emirates.
He graduated in 1977 with a Master’s degree in Physics from the University of Sciences in Paris and a Petroleum Engineering Degree from “Ecole Nationale Supérieure du Pétrole et des Moteurs (ENSPM) – Institut Français du Petrole (IFP”) in 1978. He then started his career with the Tunisian National Oil Company, ETAP, prior to joining Shell EP International.
